Child Care

Our Child Care programs are segmented by age, with each group having their own classroom specifically tailored for their age. Benefits of this approach include age-appropriate learning techniques and tools, a comfort level for your child being around children their same age, and a reduction in varying levels of social and academic development within a classroom.

The moving of children into new classrooms occurs a couple of times through the year, and is based on age, development, and available space within classrooms. Occasionally, a child may be ready to move into a new classroom early, or may not quite be ready to make a change. In both cases, the Child Care Director and teachers will discuss with you what is best for your child and recommend placement.

Caterpillar and Butterfly Classrooms

Our Infants room mirrors a nurturing home environment, with love and individual attention given to each child. We have swings, jumpers, play mats and many other toys for your child to enjoy while they are here. Infants follow their own schedule, not ours, and teachers attend to your child's basic needs with patience and sensitivity. We encourage development through stimulating activities and freedom to explore. Buggy rides and outside play on the playground are included as weather permits. All nursery staff members have received extra training in infant care. When children are ready, they advance to the one year old classrooms.

One-Year Old Program

Ladybug and Inchworm Classrooms

With changes occurring so quickly at this age, it is a great time for one year olds to learn from each other! The one-year old program begins to add a little more structure; days are enriched with activities like art, story time, music & singing, and free time to climb and play. Children begin to learn self-help skills as well as friendship, sharing, gross and fine motor skills, as well as exploring nature. Buggy rides and outside play on the playground are included as weather permits.

Two-Year Old Program

Grasshopper and Firefly Classrooms

Learning through play is the goal in the two-year old classroom! Days are filled with music, art, stories and games, along with free play, indoors and out. Toilet training is facilitated with easily accessible tiny toilets, and self-help skills are encouraged with items like sinks scaled to child size. In these classrooms, a large focus is placed on friendships and social skills. Children start to become more aware of what is "theirs" and their personal space. Our teachers guide children through sharing and personal space, and friendships truly begin to blossom at this age. Often, you will find the children hugging each other and comforting when a friend is sad.

Three-and Four-Year Old Programs

Bumblebee and Roly Poly Classrooms

Both age groups experience a more structured preschool setting, as they start to learn calendar, weather, and much more. Their day is spent further developing academic and social skills through fun activities and free play. This age group is full of energy and wonder, and learning through play is highly encouraged. The Wisconsin Model Early Learning Standards are used to guide lesson plans, and help guide the teachers of how to best prepare children for 4K. Enforcing the idea of taking turns, using kind words, using words to express feelings, following classroom guidelines, etc. These are all skills to prepare your little one for 4K!

4K Program and Wrap Around Care

Junebug Classroom/ Dragonfly Classroom

We are very excited to partner with the Mukwonago Area School District to bring you quality 4 year old Kindergarten! VCDC has an incredible 4K classroom on our upper level and a DPI Licensed teacher for this program. The AM session is from 8:45 to 11:15am and the PM session is from 12:45 to 3:15pm. Our 4K teacher follows the school district provided Seesaw curriculum, as well as creating enhancements to the children's learning each day! Our center also uses Handwriting Without Tears to promote writing skills through the year.

If you need wrap around care for your child for before or after their 4K class, we have that available from 6am-6pm. Your child would go downstairs to our wrap around classroom, before and/or after their 4K session. Wrap around care is less structured than 4K, as the bulk of learning happens while the child is in 4K. Typically the children will have a bit of free play, breakfast, lunch and snack, rest time, and outdoor recess. Then, the groups will switch based on who is in AM and who is in PM, and the second group will do the same. Our teachers do work closely with our 4K teacher, to promote learning in their environment. They will coordinate and work on similar skills in both classrooms.

Before and After School (K-6th)

Cricket Classroom

Vernon Child Development Center provides Before & After School care (Kindergarten to 6th Grade) at our Child Care Center. The Before School programs include a breakfast before your child heads off to school with free time, while the After School program includes a snack, quiet time for reading or homework, ourdoor recess, planned activities, and free play time.

For those living within the Mukwonago School District, bus transportation is provided to and from our childcare to Big Bend Elementary, however, parents need to call the bus company to confirm your child's need for bus service.
